Half Cloak

Description

This is not truely a costume but it was made to aincient standards using aincient techniques and fits an early european time period if you want to get technical. I use it too keep warm around the house or outside, with diminishing frequency.

It is made of real wool, rather rough stuff at that but very thick. I used a plant known as Fullers Teasle to full this peice. Fulling is the process of using a fine comb (nature provides the ideal tool in the seed head of the Fullers Teasle acheiving an efect that hight tech steel combs cannot improve upon) to get the outter fibers to stand on end and "frizz". This increses the amount of air that is traped and makes it much warmer. It has holes for a cloak pin but for use around the house (no I do NOT go to renesance festivals and quit asking me, that crowd has a few loose screws) it is not necesary. I made this three years ago. My character (yes I wish to atend a Fur Con, that is the kind of freak I am. I don't ask you renecance folks to show up to that) wears just such an outer cloak.

Lovely cloke, I have always thought of making one for myself but it is just too windy around here to have one be really effective. The fulling method you used is really neat, I would have never thought of dooing something like that. What sort of cloak pin do you use? just a plain one or do you have an ornimantal one? Oh and I love ren fest, because everyone has a few screws loose, or they are missing them all together, they are my kind of foke, your cloak would go over big at the ren fest here, you could get a pretty penny for it, i have seen simple wool ones sell for over 50$
